3.2 Business model of The Maverse

Modern GameFi business models focus more on finance which lures users to join with high return on investment (ROI). However, it would merely attract interest-oriented gamers and ends as an economic model which is similar to a Ponzi scheme. To us, the focus of attention in GameFi industry remains to be the game, the differences are just the newly added financial elements. Therefore, the entire design should be based on game ultimately.

The biggest flaw in current GameFi economic model is that the users’ group is limited to NFT holders. For those NFT holders, they’ve already spent a lot in purchasing NFTs to join the game, their willingness to pay extra would organically go low.

The phenomenon is similar to gamers proceeded playing by buyouts in early gaming industry. To game developers, this purchase is only one-off and could not be consecutive. Up to now, the model has evolved as playing for free along with in‑app purchases, such a gamer attracting approach could also boost single small-value purchases as well as purchase intentions.

The Maverse team has designed a business model and a game that allows everyone -not limited to NFT holders only- to play for free (by invitation only). Invite-only mechanism allows NFT holders to invite their friends to join the game with them. Since new players don’t need to pay anything to play, not only it becomes easier for NFT holders to invite their friends, but also for new players to be free from worrying that it is a scam.

Players who did not pay to play would be given a certain number of tokens which they must use to rent NFTs for having their avatars before starting to play. Each avatar has special functionalities to enhance the motivation for plays to rent, this design will bring extra values to NFTs.

For instance, in the past, people who weren’t NFT investors might not comprehend their reasons and motivations to purchase NFTs, however, when they could directly utilize investors’ NFTs, those who haven’t exposed to NFTs will learn more about their values, NFT holders could also share their NFTs with friends and families.

Despite the fact that holders could let the players they invited to choose which NFT avatars they’d like to rent, but players who didn’t pay to play could also choose which avatars they prefer to use. Each holder has chances to expose to more players and there’s a timeframe for how long they’re allowed to use the avatars they rented. Players need to rent new avatars when it’s due. Furthermore, NFT holders can choose to rent other NFT avatars to unlock more gaming experiences. (Please note that avatars will not affect game balance.)

As a free game, The Maverse needs to design corresponding traffic conversion mechanism. Because all players will receive game tokens issued by The Maverse through playing the game, it is extremely important how to limit the frequency of playing. Each player has a fixed stamina pool in The Maverse games which refreshes through time, or players could also speed up the timer by purchasing items or watching ads which bring extra revenues to the project.

In addition to the stamina limits, The Maverse is also planning on much more versatile contents to encourage players to do in-game purchase on a basis of not affecting game balance. To The Maverse, the major purpose is to bring joy to our players through games.
